Frequently Asked Dental Questions
How often should I visit the dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends patients visit the dentist at least two times each year from the time their first tooth erupts or about the first birthday. The Creative Smiles team encourages patients to maintain regular checkups at least every six months. In some cases, we may recommend more frequent appointments to help combat frequent tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health concerns.
Can I bring my kids to your office?
We are a family dental practice, and we welcome young patients. In rare cases, we may need to refer children to a pediatric dentistry specialist, but whenever possible, our team offers ongoing care from your child’s first tooth to the last.
What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal (gum) disease occurs when plaque and tartar buildup at the gum line irritates, infects, or breaks down soft tissue negatively impacting oral health. We offer a variety of treatments to restore oral health for those patients who suffer from this common condition.
Should I visit the dentist, if I have sleep apnea?
In many cases, the dentist can offer an effective, comfortable treatment solution – oral appliance therapy that offers patients the same level of relief possible with the more traditional CPAP systems. If you’re CPAP intolerant, would like a more portable sleep apnea solution, or want to find out about combining CPAP and oral appliance therapy, the dentist should be your next stop.
Should I get Invisalign or Six Month Smiles?
Like any dental care decision, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why we offer both of these cosmetic orthodontic options. Invisalign uses clear, plastic alignment trays, but offers treatment nearly as comprehensive as traditional bracket and wire braces. The Six Month Smiles system uses tooth colored brackets and wires to shift just those teeth that are visible when patients smile, so this treatment is not ideal for younger patients or those with severe bite alignment concerns.
What if I have an emergency?
Contact our team right away. We’re happy to offer same day appointments whenever possible, and we always take the time to help patients by offering first aid and pain management tips until they arrive at our office.
Do you take my insurance, and offer financing options?
We are happy to process and file claims for any insurance plan, and are in-network providers for a number of the major PPO plans. Patients without insurance and those who are in need of more advanced care, may want to consider low or no interest financing through CareCredit.
